How to backup your data using OneDrive

Backing up your files using OneDrive

What is OneDrive?

  • OneDrive is a Microsoft product that gives you free storage in the cloud.

  • It means that if you lose or break your laptop you can immediately access your files on any other device.

  • If you do accidentally delete a file you get 60 days to restore it.

  • Works on Mac and Windows.

THIS IS A GREAT THING TO DO BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR DATA – NOT IN RESPONSE TO HAVING LOST YOUR DATA ALREADY AND NOT WANTING TO LOSE IT AGAIN…!!

How do you install OneDrive?

  1. Go to www.office.com

  2. Sign in with your Malvern College Office 365 account

         Your username is emailaddress@malverncollege.org.uk

Your password is the same as you use to log into email

  1. Click on the OneDrive icon

  2. One the bottom left of the screen you will see the OneDrive click on it and install OneDrive

  3. Once installed, open OneDrive and login using the user login credentials above

  4. OneDrive will open a OneDrive folder, drag all of your documents into this folder and the application will automatically begin to upload your files to OneDrive.

  5. NOTE : OneDrive will not upload files or folders with invalid symbols in the name, this includes a space at the end of the name, it will however give you a list of files that are not uploaded so you can take a look and correct any invalid.

  • You must remember to always save your files into the OneDrive folder – otherwise they will not be backed up

  • You can then access your files at any computer or even your smart phone by going to www.onedrive.com and logging in with your Malvern College account details.
